Deciphering free notes for patient research

DDI initiative case studies

When health researchers look at patient data, it is anonymous and only provides the information provided on forms and from ticking boxes – not the notes taken during appointments.

To help make this valuable data available, public consent is crucial – and a research project has been trying to code these ‘free notes’, using the superior data processing power of the Edinburgh International Data Facility and DDI’s Usher Institute hub.

The Data Driven Innovation initiative is supporting hundreds of collaborations and organisations across Edinburgh and the south-east of Scotland. For more information follow their page on LinkedIn, find @datacapitaled on X (formerly Twitter) or go to the website ddi.ac.uk.
